Important Information for all new brides
We at Brideshair in the past 18-24 months have discovered several glitches concerning wedding gowns, primarily wedding dresses.
From our extensive years of experience helping brides into there dresses on their big day no-one needs to be subjected to these difficulties. Therefore we have complied the following list for you to check that these problems do not occur for you on your wedding day & cause unnecessary anxiety.
Your dress will be the most expensive piece of clothing you are ever likely to invest in insist on your needs
-
Make sure you have your wedding gown & bridesmaids dresses in your possession at least 4-6 weeks before your wedding day, it is highly unlikely your weight will change that much plus due to the recent economic climate several wedding dress outlets have closed without notice often going bankrupt leaving you the Bride without a dress.
- If you are at all worried a wedding gown outlet may not provide your dress early enough before your wedding day our advice is to say from the start your wedding date is a few weeks earlier. This way you will be guarantee to have your dress in your possession with plenty of time to spare.
- Make sure all alterations to your dresses have been completed correctly, no pins or tacking stitches are left in any part of your dress and there are both parts to press studs &/or hooks & eyes sewn within the dress. It has been noted lately these are often missed off when a dress has been extensively altered.
- Make sure if you have a buttoned design on the back of the dress there is a zip additional to the buttons.
- Make sure all buttons have elasticated loops NOT material loops, often material loops are made too small & are difficult to fasten
- Make sure all eyelets for laces are correctly secure, in our experience for a lace up design loops are a safer option
- Make sure all lace loops are sewn securely & big enough to pull laces through
- Make sure if you have your dress made larger or smaller all popper & hook fastenings are replaced too, if your dress has a train & your dress length is altered make sure your train is also altered, the dress will be out of proportion otherwise.
- Make sure you remove all labels prior to your wedding day securely including your veil. Hang any creased items asap & steam out (a shower room is ideal)
- Make sure on your final dress fitting your wedding dress is completely and fully done up (all buttons, laces, hook & eyes etc...) by the shop owner/dressmaker. Also insist on walking around the shop with your dress fully done up, this is to ensure you feel completely comfortable in your dress.
- When making a payment for your outfits (or any other large purchase) PLEASE use a credit card, NOT cash, cheque or debit card, this way if your outfits do not materialise you can get your money back via the credit card company
- FINALLY If you take out wedding insurance make sure if your policy covers you for your outfits when they are not in your possession.
REMEMBER YOU ARE THE PAYING CUSTOMER
We hope these tips have been useful
